Echinacea
Echinacea purpurea Known for its medicial properties, Echinacea with their shades of bright pink and white flowers and stiff brown central cones can create a lovely effect in the garden when planted in wandering drifts with other perennials.  The root of the plant is the most potent, though as a child we often got more use from the dried seed pods; they make great back scratchers.  We think all gardens should have at least one clump of Echinacea.
